For the reasons you discussed, I absolutely believe that the Confederate banner does not belong on government premises, hence why I supported Mississippi’s decision to remove it from their flag. Personal usage - i.e. inside one’s house - should be allowed more benefit of the doubt, because for an individual person it can symbolize Southern cultural pride rather than support for slavery and secession. That said, I strongly recommend that any person who thinks about hanging up a Confederate banner should also think about what it means to a great many of their black neighbors; the cruel humiliation and oppression of their ancestors.
